Appearance

Vivi is a slender young woman of moderate height whose long, wavy light-blue hair, often pulled into a ponytail, frames brown eyes and a face her father says mirrors her late mother's. She tends to dress more modestly than Nami or Robin and cycles through a long parade of outfits, from desert wear and dancer garb to the formal princess dress she adopts after her coming-of-age speech. The timeskip leaves her hair down and clipped back and her figure fuller. Notably, during her Baroque Works days as Miss Wednesday she was drawn older and sharper-featured, only softening into a recognizably teenage look once her true identity came out.

Personality

Far from a pampered royal, Vivi puts everyone else first, prizing her citizens and friends above her own safety to the point of asking the crew to detour for Nami's treatment even with her country in crisis. She is brave and stubbornly determined, squaring up to enemies who plainly outmatch her, slow to anger, quick to forgive, and fiercely loyal. A gifted diplomat from childhood, she once apologized to Wapol after he struck her and held back tears to avoid an international incident. She prefers words to violence and dreams of saving everyone, a naivety both Luffy and Crocodile called out. Quirks round her out: she struggles to insult anyone, hands out nicknames like 'Mr. Bushido' for Zoro, bites her lip when worried, and famously kept forgetting to warn the crew about desert monsters until they appeared.

History

As a girl Vivi co-led the Sand-Sand Clan with Koza, then at fourteen infiltrated Baroque Works, climbing to Frontier Agent under the codename Miss Wednesday while partnered with Mr. 9. After Whisky Peak exposed her as a spy plotting against the organization, she and her duck Karoo threw in with the Straw Hats for the bulk of the Arabasta Saga. Across the journey she fought Baroque Works at every turn, from Whisky Peak and Little Garden to the climactic struggle in Alubarna, and ultimately persuaded the royal guard and rebels to lay down their arms and end Crocodile's manufactured civil war.

With Baroque Works beaten, Vivi chose to remain in Arabasta rather than sail on, though she is still regarded as an honorary Straw Hat and quietly tracks the crew's exploits. Years later she attended the Levely, where she defended Shirahoshi from the World Noble Charlos and clashed with Rob Lucci. When Imu and the Five Elders murdered her father Cobra and exposed her family's link to the Will of D., Vivi became a target of the World Government; she fled Mary Geoise and, alongside her old enemy Wapol, took refuge aboard Morgans' airship, where she still hopes to rejoin Luffy's crew.

In combat Vivi fights with her twirling Peacock Slashers, sharp wire-bound discs worn on her fingers, later upgrading to a longer-ranged string version powerful enough to behead a foe in a single stroke, backed by a special followup she dubs Run Back. Before joining the crew she also used a hypnotic dance keyed to the patterns on her outfit. Though far weaker physically than the Monster Trio, she is naturally agile and resilient to pain, an accomplished diplomat, and a skilled spy who held her cover for two years undetected by the Marines, the government, and even Crocodile.
