Mobston

Standing about twice the height of Luffy, Mobston cuts an imposing figure modeled on the classic buccaneer. Small round black spectacles rest over a gray beard, and a pirate hat displaying a golden jolly roger sits on his head. For clothes he favors jeans, a captain's coat, and a blue tank top, while his parrot Bolt, marked with the kanji for 'man' tattooed on it, nearly always perches on his shoulder. He once handed his hat to Usopp to borrow before the Straw Hats departed for Piriodo.

His many years at sea left Mobston with deep compassion for pirates, whom he aids exactly as he would any ordinary civilian. He respects those willing to wager their lives chasing dreams across the New World, and for that very reason he harbors fury toward Z for breaking the resolve of so many crews.

Over and over Mobston saw pirate crews have their dreams crushed by Z. Even though he patched up their vessels, the disheartened sailors left their weapons and equipment behind on Dock Island and disappeared to unknown places. Unwilling to let it slide, he collected and protected the gear, meaning to give it to whoever was brave enough to face Z. He labors as a shipwright together with his granddaughter, while his grandson Gari shares his interest in pirates.

When the Straw Hat Pirates wrecked close to Dock Island, Mobston and his grandchildren offered them shelter and set about repairing the Thousand Sunny, telling them all they knew about Z. Once he realized Luffy would not give up after losing, Mobston offered his finest equipment for the fight and helped Franky with the repairs. After the crew came back from another defeat, he showed them the stored gear and let them wield it against Z. Once the Straw Hats finished fighting the Neo Marines, they handed the equipment back, and Mobston bid them farewell as the crew sailed away.
