Momonga

Tall and powerfully built, Momonga is topped by a black mohawk and wears a mustache that the anime renders dark red. His attire follows the usual Marine pattern: a pinstripe suit in purple and white, a shoulder-draped coat worn the way Kizaru wears his, and beneath it a dark blue shirt with a light blue tie. A katana travels with him at all times, fixed to his right hip or balanced on his shoulder. In his younger days he sported a Marine cap with no mustache yet grown, and twenty-seven years back the mustache was longer and thinner while his mohawk swept forward.

Grim and tightly focused, Momonga pushes every assignment to its end with cold efficiency, though which form of Justice he upholds stays unclear. He genuinely cares for those under him even while their blunders frustrate him, as when they melted before Boa Hancock's charms. An instinctive and adaptable combatant, he worked out how to deflect her Mero Mero Mellow within seconds, and his regard for civility showed in his revulsion at the crude Level 6 inmates of Impel Down who jeered at Hancock and Magellan.

His rank lets Momonga summon a Buster Call with four fellow vice admirals behind him, and his body backs the authority: he killed a Sea King from inside its belly with speed and great strength, and he drove a tanto into his own hand to withstand Hancock's petrification, the same power that turned his crew to stone. He fights as a skilled swordsman who blends his blade with Soru and Geppo from the Six Powers, and he commands both Armament and Observation Haki. Years before, he was among the vice admirals called to apprehend the Roger and Golden Lion Pirates at Edd War. When Spandam accidentally set off a Buster Call against Enies Lobby, Momonga led the assault alongside Onigumo, Doberman, Strawberry, and Yamakaji, torching the island yet failing to kill a single Straw Hat or ally.

Ordered to bring Boa Hancock to the Warlord summons ahead of the war over Ace, he anchored in the Calm Belt off Amazon Lily and waited. When she refused and loosed her power, Momonga survived by wounding himself while his men were petrified, vowing to remain until she yielded. She eventually agreed on the condition of stopping at Impel Down, and the group, an unseen Luffy stowed aboard, sailed on to Marineford. There he heard Sengoku's account of Ace's lineage, cut down Whitebeard Pirate cannon fire, and was among those who nearly killed Luffy at the wall, striking him with notable aerial swordsmanship before standing down at Shanks's ceasefire. He afterward commanded G-1 when the fake Straw Hats appeared at Sabaody and was present at New Marineford as the Marines intercepted talk between Big Mom and Kaidou. Non-canon tales pit him against Zoro and Shuzo while escorting Panz Fry and place him in several films.
