Negikuma Maria

Maria is an enormous woman, towering at roughly twice Luffy's height, and her bulky silhouette so closely matches a Hiking Bear that Luffy and Usopp genuinely mistook her for one. Her hair is curly and rounded, and she bundles up in a brown coat that swallows her whole frame, trimmed with white fur at the cuffs, hood, and hem and detailed with light-brown frills at the chest and a dark band at the waist. A light-red scarf and fur-topped dark-brown shoes complete the look.

Maria is wary of pirates, a caution rooted in the devastation visited on Drum Island by a raid in the past. Setting that aside, she is an ordinary housewife devoted to her two children. She trusts Dalton deeply and greets him with genuine warmth, leaning on his judgment about newcomers.

When the Straw Hats combed Drum Island for a doctor with Dalton's help, they ran into Maria in the village of Bighorn, where Luffy and Usopp bowed to the supposed bear. Unsettled by word of arriving pirates after the Blackbeard raid, she checked with Dalton that all was well. That day happened to be her eldest son's birthday, and she was out gathering onions to bake him a cake; on her next appearance, basket now full, she let Dalton know that Dr. Kureha had moved on to the neighboring village. She was also present when Kureha returned to the village at Dalton's call after the Enies Lobby events.
