Ochanoma Papa

Short in stature, Papa has brown hair and a scruff of stubble. His outfit pairs a red, yellow-striped coat cropped at the belly with oversized green shorts dotted in yellow that keep sliding down, topped by a pirate hat matching the coat. Dark rectangular shades perch at the end of his nose, and a cord around his neck holds what looks like a wedding ring.

At heart Papa began as a coward, shrinking from anyone tougher than himself while putting on a brave act so his children would admire him. Encouragement from Luffy and his daughter Daisy eventually let him conquer that fear and act with genuine nerve. He also holds firmly to the idea that elders deserve respect, snapping at his daughter Roza when she branded him a liar.

After his wife passed, Papa took up captaining the Tearoom Pirates, crewed only by his children Daisy, Roza, and Rick. Their travels along the Grand Line cost him Roza's respect as his cowardice showed, and a casual trip to Omatsuri Island for a picnic dropped them into the Baron's deadly games, where they lost the goldfish-catching trial and went into hiding.

Caught off guard by Chopper at a cemetery, Papa lost a quick scuffle but cut a bargain: a staged defeat to impress his kids in exchange for helping the Straw Hats against Omatsuri. The arrangement soured when Omatsuri shot Chopper and later pressured the family to feed the reindeer to Lily Carnation, forcing Papa to make his children release Chopper to protect them. Roza's accusation of cowardice earned her a slap and a demand for respect, but his family turned away. Daisy ultimately confessed she had always known he was pretending, yet believed in a hidden strength inside him, words that, alongside Luffy's example, gave Papa the resolve to act. Snatching Omatsuri's bow, he fired a single arrow straight through Lily Carnation's head, killing the plant and opening the way for Luffy's finishing blow. With the threat gone, his children looked up to him once more. He later appeared among the Tearoom Pirates attending the Pirates Festival in One Piece: Stampede.
