Orlumbus

Orlumbus is a giant built like the storybook image of a pirate captain. A deep scowl hangs over his thick, stubbled chin, and he wears his long blond hair braided, four of the plaits tossed across one shoulder. His torso is broad and muscular while his legs stay strikingly short and slight. On his head sits a bicorn topped with a little skull, set above a black bandanna dotted with orange, and braids tumble from beneath it so that hat and hair blur together. A buckled strap runs across his bare chest under a long naval coat, navy in the manga and red in the anime.

Orlumbus brims with confidence, once hoisting a defeated lion overhead simply to show off his power. He prizes order and protocol, sticking to schedules, keeping things spotless, and issuing commands so authoritatively that even foes obey before sensing the attack to come. Where most freed from Sugar's curse were ruled by greed, he opted to fight the Donquixote Pirates instead, and proved loyal enough afterward to pledge his entire fleet to Luffy. A lifelong scholar who has loved books since boyhood, he can also be generous, supplying a poor town he had meant to raid, and he is fond of inflating his deeds, styling himself the Pioneer Explorer where others call him the Made-Up Explorer.

Raised poor in the Standing Kingdom, Orlumbus became a voracious reader before some unnamed act tagged him the Made-Up Explorer. The king is said to have later named him an official explorer and admiral, granting him the enormous force that grew into the Yonta Maria Grand Fleet, around 4,300 soldiers across 56 ships, and his exploits in the New World earned the Massacre Ruler title. Seeking the Mera Mera no Mi, he entered the Corrida Colosseum, was sorted into D Block, and beat the lion Agyo with his whip before Cavendish's alter-ego Hakuba felled the entire block. Transformed into a toy and put to work in the trade port, he returned to himself when Sugar collapsed, then escaped to the surface through Pica's reshaping of the ground.

Encountering Luffy, Zoro, and Law, he declared he would claim Doflamingo's head and fought beside the allied gladiators, his great strength letting him hurl Zoro across the battlefield to help bring down Pica. Once Doflamingo fell and the Marines gave chase, Orlumbus offered his 56 ships and crew to spirit the Straw Hats away and asked to join the alliance, which became the Straw Hat Grand Fleet sealed over cups of sake. In the cover-story serial that follows, he returns home to resign as an adventurer, starts his pirate life with fussy daily routine, and chooses to hand supplies to a destitute island rather than loot it.
