Appearance

Pedro was a large feline mink, his fur spotted, his ears white, and his blond hair long and wavy. During his years as a pirate captain he surrendered his left eye to Big Mom, and afterward let his hair fall across the resulting scar; his left ear was torn as well. Arriving in Totto Land, he disguised himself in a frilled dress shirt, a dark cape edged with the same frills, and a wide dark hat that hid much of his face. When the Fire Tank Pirates hosted their meeting, he changed into a green fedora over a matching suit, pairing it with a dark shirt and an ascot of red.

Personality

Fierce loyalty defined Pedro, who would rush to violence on behalf of his allies before any discussion had run its course. As a Guardian he was ready to die defending the Whale Forest, though he conceded that he and his fellow Guardians were quick to bristle at intruders. Off duty he grew wary and distrustful of strangers, reaching for force against anyone he suspected, as he did on first meeting Charlotte Pudding. Fittingly for his nickname, he favored high vantage points, treetops among them. Tamago recalled that in his pirate days Pedro placed his own survival above all, yet by the time he joined the Straw Hats he had made peace with dying once his debts to them were paid, believing they would usher in the dawn of the world. This left him a reckless fighter, careless of whether he survived a given clash. He was also sharply perceptive, alone among the retrieval team in doubting Pudding on account of her ties to Big Mom.

History

As a child, when the Roger Pirates called at Zou, Pedro asked to sail alongside Kouzuki Oden and Gol D. Roger himself; the captain turned him down, yet promised that his moment would arrive. Thirteen years before the story, he led the Nox Expedition Party as it hunted for a Poneglyph, and a World Government bounty soon rebranded the group as the Nox Pirates. Ten years into their voyage, he and Zepo reached Totto Land, reunited with Pekoms, and came to blows with Big Mom's crew; Pedro tore out Tamago's left eye but was overwhelmed. When Zepo's spin of Big Mom's roulette landed on the fatal result and killed him, Pedro faced losing decades of his own life, and gouged out his eye to prove he had to live long enough to see the coming dawn. Big Mom, impressed, took 50 years and let him go.

Later, when Jack's Beasts Pirates invaded Zou hunting Raizo, Pedro and the Guardians fought them for days until Caesar's Koro gas felled the minks. He pleaded with Sanji's newly arrived party, urging them to rescue Nekomamushi and Inuarashi. Pedro then volunteered for the Sanji Retrieval Team, the only mink Nekomamushi permitted to go, since he alone could keep Pekoms in check. In Totto Land he and Brook infiltrated Big Mom's castle; Brook secured copies of the Poneglyphs while Pedro drew the guards away as a decoy, dueling Tamago and cutting him in half before escaping into the Mirro-World via Brûlée's mirrors.

During the flight from Whole Cake Island, Perospero pinned Pedro to the ground, but the mink lit the stockpile of explosives inside his jacket and detonated it, engulfing them both. Perospero survived; Pedro did not, and his sacrifice freed the Thousand Sunny and his friends. A grave was later raised for him near Amigasa Village, in the Kuri region of Wano Country, and Nekomamushi eventually avenged him by defeating Perospero.
