Poro

Wrinkles line the face of this old shopkeeper, whose scalp runs bare across the top while short white hair frames the sides. The same white colors his bushy brows and a drooping Fu Manchu mustache. For daily wear he pairs a maroon short-sleeved button shirt with grey shorts and matching maroon footwear, though the anime recolors the shirt tan, turns the shorts and shoes brown, and darkens his facial hair. By the era of the timeskip he has trimmed the mustache back above his lip and switched to a black shirt worn with sandals. Four decades earlier he looked far younger, his hair fully black and covering his crown, dressed in a green tee reading HENKUTSU over grey trousers.

Direct and level-headed, Poro holds his composure when those around him panic, settling the rattled townsfolk during the mayor's absence. He understands how Boodle's mind works and places great faith in him, yet he does not share the mayor's sentimental attachment to the town itself. In Poro's view, keeping everyone alive matters far more than any structure, since a ruined settlement can always be rebuilt. Stern as he is, he relented with a smile when the citizens refused to stay behind, respecting their resolve. He also has a habit of calling those around him fools.

Poro belongs to a band of refugees who fled their original home after pirates burned it down. Roughly forty two years ago, guided by Boodle, the survivors landed on the Organ Islands and founded what grew into the bustling harbor of Orange Town. Shortly before the Straw Hats turned up, the Buggy Pirates seized the settlement, driving Poro and the residents into a shelter beyond its edge.

When Boodle slipped back into town to feed the dog Chouchou, Poro warned him against any gamble. The injured dog later returned alone, and Poro worked to calm the worried crowd before finally leading them in to search for the missing mayor. They stumbled onto the Straw Hats and an unconscious Boodle, and once Luffy admitted to flooring him, the enraged townsfolk chased the pirates off while Poro stayed at the mayor's side. Boodle eventually came around and scolded everyone for badmouthing the crew. Years afterward, Poro appears beaming beside Boodle and Chouchou at the opening of a new pet food shop, cheered by fresh news of the Straw Hats.
