Appearance

Light-brown fur covers Raccoon, a small boy with long bangs falling across long hair and a round black nose. Beneath his eyes lie dark patches, his ears are brown, and behind him drags a lengthy brown tail. For clothes he sports a yellow-green hooded jumper above a green long-sleeved shirt, tops it off with a green multicolored cap, and finishes with greenish-brown shorts that reach past the knee plus brown shoes.

Personality

Kindness and a readiness to help define Raccoon at his core. Unlike his brother, he nurses no resentment and stays emotionally rooted to the village of his childhood even after catastrophe struck, which explains why he so often lingers close by. His bravery showed when he flung himself between Fang and an incoming attack from Luffy, and praise tends to leave him shy yet pleased, much in the way Chopper reacts.

History

Growing up beside Fang in their home settlement, Raccoon lived where their grandfather, a scientist devoted to solar energy, had thawed a frozen winter island into a mild and verdant land. Fang eventually took charge of the machine and aimed its power at experiments meant to graft animal traits onto people. A grave accident then transformed four people plus Raccoon into animals: the boy gained a raccoon's features, Fang was reshaped into a wolf, and the three researchers working with him became pigs. Terrified villagers banished them all, though Raccoon stayed fond of the place and frequently kept watch nearby, while Fang carried on hunting fruitlessly for a way to undo what had happened. When pirates struck, Fang accused the villagers of sending them, but Raccoon would not accept that and turned out to be correct.

After the Straw Hats dropped anchor at the island and most of the crew had been transformed, Raccoon encountered them yet bolted upon learning they were pirates. When Chopper began working on a cure, Raccoon agreed to help hunt for Fang, guiding Luffy to a laboratory where Fang downed Usopp and Chopper before slipping away once more. Raccoon helped carry the injured back toward the village while staying outside it, and later volunteered to lead Luffy and Chopper to his brother, unwilling to back Fang's plan to turn everyone across the Grand Line into animals. As Luffy attacked, Raccoon dove in to shield Fang and absorbed the strike himself, making one final plea before slipping out of consciousness. Taken into the village to heal, he was refused entry at first until the elder spoke for him, after which the regretful villagers nursed him with fruit, cookies, and water. He came to too late to reach Chopper before Fang fell, and the two of them then hauled the unconscious Fang home, where the elder and the chief at last untangled the misunderstandings and a celebration began. No cure existed for Raccoon, Fang, and the three others, since a botched experiment rather than the drug had changed them, yet that hardly bothered them. Come the next morning, Raccoon uncovered a hidden room back at the temple and shared the discovery with Fang and Chopper.
