Rice Rice

Lanky and pale, Rice Rice stands tall with round eyes, a slim upper lip set against a fuller lower one, a narrow nose, and a squared-off chin. His black hair is cropped short and narrows into a point along the right edge of his head, framed by stubby, thick brows and cheeks that stay permanently flushed. He dresses in a tangerine suit fastened with brown buttons over a blue, purple-dotted shirt and a yellow tie. Completing the ensemble are a yellow pocket square, cufflinks of gold, and gold bands worn on the index, middle, and ring fingers of both hands. Stretched across his chest is a white sash reading "GEKIYASU!!" in red, a word that means cheap.

Rice Rice embodies the textbook hard-sell merchant, all friendliness and easy patter aimed at moving his stock. Even after the Straw Hat Pirates hauled him to safety, gratitude ran thin; he handed over free catalogs and then pivoted straight to selling. He talks his goods up with inflated claims and the odd dishonest trick, as when he misled Nami about how scarce his Millennium Paper was and jacked up the price once he figured she was an easy mark. Yet closing a sale seems to matter more to him than squeezing out top prices, since he slashed that same paper by close to 45 million Berries after only mild haggling.

Scatterbrained by nature, he failed to notice he was even aboard a pirate ship until Luffy's name came up, and he absent-mindedly left part of his stock behind on the Going Merry. Pirates frighten him, especially high-bounty ones like Luffy. He also has a signature cackle, rendered as "Nahahhahahahaha."

While out making deliveries, Rice Rice and his Escar were caught in a storm and drifted off course. On a quiet afternoon, the trio of Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper sat dangling their lines over the rail when Luffy hauled the Escar up out of the water. Emerging from the craft, the salesman thanked them and pressed free catalog books on the crew as a reward. As he pitched his trade, the three curious crewmates climbed into the Escar and started toying with his merchandise. He cut in, plucked Luffy's Buru Buru Blade away to run through its features, mirrored the demonstration with the Ab-Ab Slider when he caught Chopper with it, calling both his firm's number-one item, and strapped a protesting Usopp into the Golden Fish, before bundling those products together with Mero Mero Juice, a heap of encyclopedias, and binoculars for 23,800 Berries.

Spotting the knife range as the crew flipped through catalogs, Sanji drew a sales push for a flexible High Mountain blade plus a twelve-piece table knife collection, kitchen scissors, a fruit-peeling blade, and a sharpener run on electricity, all priced at 2,980 Berries. Rice Rice angled his Silky Smooth Skin Soap at Robin, who remarked on the sheer size of the catalog, and brushed off Luffy's hope of buying live animals. When Nami asked after weatherproof paper, he produced the Millennium Paper and, sensing how badly she wanted it, tried to gouge her, dangling a so-called reduced rate of 48 million Berries. Haggling drove the figure down sharply until Sanji declared the crew would buy it, tied Luffy up, and floated handing him to the Marines. At that the salesman realized he was dealing with Monkey D. Luffy, spotted the Jolly Roger, and collapsed to the deck in a panic. He scrambled up, invented an appointment, dove back into the Escar, and sped off, forgetting the goods he had been demonstrating and leaving them with the pirates.

He later turned up at the Pirates Festival during the events of One Piece: Stampede, where he was seen waving around Dopp's wanted poster.
