Riku Doldo III is the restored king of Dressrosa, returned to the throne after Doflamingo, who had toppled him ten years earlier, was finally beaten. Patriarch of the Riku Family and grandfather of Rebecca, this kind and pacifist ruler endured public hatred before his name was at last cleared.
Doldo is an aging man who remains powerfully built and heavily muscled. Disguised as the gladiator Ricky, he wore a dark purple cape bearing a skull and crossbones, a leather pteruges skirt over black briefs, a chest harness, and a full gold helmet with a flame motif that hid everything but his eyes. A crack in that mask during the B Block battle royale exposed his thick brown beard and mustache. Out of disguise he reveals heavy brows, with a bristly crown of hair circling the rear of his skull and a lone tuft near the top. One stitched scar climbs from over his left brow up across his scalp, a wound from his first encounter with Kyros, and a second runs across the right of his upper chest and neck.
Though the public long reviled his name, Doldo is in truth deeply kind, noble, and caring. While he reigned he placed his citizens' welfare above all and readily aided struggling nations, earning the respect of rulers such as Elizabello II. Honoring his family's tradition of compassion and pacifism, he chose to pay off the ransom Doflamingo demanded rather than wage war, and even bowed before his own people despite his advisers' objections. He later admitted that his gentle nature had made him a weak king, bringing suffering to Dressrosa and the death of his daughter Scarlett, and he had no wish to rule again until the citizens chose him unanimously. He is also a proud man who refused treatment for his injuries to protect his hidden identity.
In his earlier reign Dressrosa was peaceful, if not wealthy. When Kyros, then fifteen, killed two men in a brawl, Doldo approached him in person, was struck on the head for it, yet ordered his men to lower their weapons and invited the youth to follow him, eventually making him captain of the army. He blessed the union of Kyros and his daughter Scarlett and delighted in their child, Rebecca. One night Doflamingo appeared in his chambers demanding ten billion berries to leave the country be; Doldo gathered the citizens' money to avert a war, but Doflamingo used his power to seize control of the king and his soldiers and turn them against the people. Stripped of all credibility, Doldo was held captive while Doflamingo passed himself off as a hero. Years later, after Doflamingo's defeat, the people crowned Doldo once more, and during the following Levely he stood among the leaders pushing to abolish the Seven Warlords system.
