Rittonto

Rittonto has lengthy brown hair, a round nose, and a plump belly. He tops his head with a helmet and wears black armbands marked by a red stripe that reach only as far as his upper arms. Grey trousers held by a belt with an oversized gold buckle complete the look, finished off with black boots over red-and-white striped socks.

Stubbornness defines the boy. He insisted on waiting for his long-absent grandfather, and once waiting proved impossible he swore he would track him down someday. His affection runs deep for his grandfather, for Shelly, and for his pet mole, and he carries a genuine love of digging holes. That passion eventually made him, alongside his mole, the world's top digger, able to tunnel across the great distance from his village all the way to where his grandfather had gone.

A decade earlier, Rittonto and Tonjit were seen talking together when the old man presented his grandson with a mole, and the boy quickly bonded with the animal. Tonjit explained he was about to begin his attempt at the world record for staying on stilts the longest, and that the creature could keep the boy company while he was away. Soon after, the village prepared to relocate and intended to leave Shelly behind because she wished to wait for Tonjit. Rittonto insisted he too should stay, yet the chief of the village compelled him to travel on with everyone else, and he swore that someday he would locate the old man. To ease his loneliness he took up digging, and the pursuit of a digging record with his mole turned that sorrow into drive.

During the events at Long Ring Long Land, the boy resurfaced when his mole tore up out of the soil and demolished the home of Tonjit. At first the crew mistook the youngster for a mole, then accused him once he showed himself. When grandfather and grandson recognized each other, both broke into tears, and Rittonto recounted to the pirates how he had become a digger. He then used the mole to help his grandfather slip away from the island.
