Appearance

His skin is tanned, and he dresses in a red coat modeled after standard Marine uniforms, paired with a matching cap, a white shirt, white trousers, and dark boots. Gold trim runs along the borders of both the coat and the headgear. For battle he carries a lance fitted with an orange grip and a bronze spearhead bent into a jagged zigzag.

Personality

Smash is grim and humorless. He believes in absolute justice, yet pushes the doctrine so far that it curdles into tyranny. Convinced the Marines had gone soft, he abandoned the force, raised his own faction, and conquered an island purely to expand his power, rallying everything around demands for extermination, justice, and righteousness. As with many figures in the series, he carries a distinctive laugh, a drawn-out Delalalala.

History

Once an ordinary Marine, Smash grew convinced the organization no longer chased justice seriously, so he split off to assemble the DX Marines. Together with his nephew Bildy, he brought the group to Madatascar Island, a place famed for its fireworks, took control of it, and forbade the residents from holding any further pyrotechnic celebrations. He had already eaten the Zuma Zuma no Mi, which lets him produce plasma, bend it to his will, and turn his own body into the substance, and every soldier in the DX Marines answers to him. When the Straw Hats arrived, he unleashed underlings whom Bildy had reshaped into formidable fighters. He also encountered Admiral Fujitora, who let him keep enforcing his justice on the condition that the islanders stayed safe. After the crew regrouped, Smash dueled Monkey D. Luffy and fell to the captain's Gomu Gomu no Grizzly Magnum. He was then imprisoned in Impel Down, only to reappear within Balzac's Prisoner Unit during the 2019 show, where he fought Luffy once more in pursuit of revenge before Balzac himself drove him away.
