Appearance

Eating a Horse SMILE left Speed split between species: from the waist up she reads as a towering woman, while below she carries the legs, tail, and ears of a horse. Her mane is parted by color, one half bleached white and the other a deep blue, a scheme echoed in her furred tail. Violet irises, a pierced equine ear, and pink goggles perched on her head round out her face, and her grin stretches wide into something distinctly horse-like whenever she is pleased.

She favors a two-toned jacket cut to show cleavage, paired with blue pauldrons, a stubby feather cape, a pearl necklace, beaded bracelets, metal armbands, and white gloves; a longbow rides at her back, though she keeps no quiver. Saddle gear loaded with pouches and matching beads sits across her horse half. During Yamato's later travels she trades all of this for a traditional Wano kimono.

Personality

Duty drives Speed, and slackers grate on her. She bristles at being bossed around, taking pride in her rank, yet a single kind word melts her instantly into that goofy horse grin. She enjoys showing off her gifts, once bragging about her sweeping field of vision. Her subordinates adored her even as their incompetence pushed her temper to its limit.

Everything shifts once Tama feeds her a kibi dango. The rigid officer becomes warm and affectionate, addressing the child as Master and guarding her with fierce devotion, even putting her own life on the line to keep the girl safe.

History

Born in Wano and now twenty-four, Speed joined the Beasts Pirates, swallowed a SMILE, and rose to Shinuchi under Jack's command in Kuri. Her Horse SMILE grants equine speed, the strength to bear riders, and a claimed 350-degree range of sight, though that same animal nature leaves her open to Tama's taming fruit. While gathering provisions in Bakura Town she ran into Luffy's rampage; furious at being mounted like a common horse, she nonetheless ate the dango Tama offered and instantly switched sides, ferrying the pair toward Okobore Town.

Kaidou caught the two and nearly killed her for the perceived defection, leaving her gravely wounded until Luffy found her and moved her clear of the fight. Resolving to honor Tama's wish for a Wano free of Kaidou and Orochi, Speed sailed her to Onigashima and, alongside Daifugo and Gazelleman, spread tamed dango among the Gifters to turn them against the crew. Through the raid she acted as Tama's steed and shield, shepherding Nami, Usopp, and Komachiyo across the battlefield.

Once the island settled, Tama asked her to stay on forever as a mother, a plea that moved her deeply. The anime additionally has her loose Haki-charged arrow volleys at Zoro and Kiku, feats absent from the manga. Later, during Yamato's pilgrimage, she carried Tama in the chase for Yasuie's stolen sword and weathered Holed'em's ambush in Udon.
