Long curls of black hair framed a gaunt, almost skull-like face set on a notably long neck, and one of his teeth was missing. His frame paired a rounded belly and thickly muscled arms with strikingly thin legs. Even after enlisting, his look stayed rooted in his knightly past: sleeveless golden chain mail with an ornate collar, a plumed helmet trailing a long purple feather, and a Marine-marked tunic over his cuirass, all cinched by a rope belt like those of samurai. Crosses adorned much of his gear, from the helmet to the pendants at his waist to his sword's hilt, and he favored a high-collared mantle bearing the kanji for justice rather than the usual officer's coat. He wielded a richly decorated, Templar-style blade, carried on his hip or across his back. In later years he added a thin horizontal mustache and a lined chin beard.

His withered features belied a deeply honorable and considerate nature, and he loathed needless bloodshed. He took everything to heart, fussing melodramatically over the smallest troubles of the soldiers he commanded, which often left them uneasy. His readiness to throw away his own life ran well past what any situation demanded, and he leaned on grand, theatrical speech laced with talk of honor and justice. Convinced that every criminal who slipped away left an innocent in peril, he would risk anything, even death, to make an arrest, as he proved by sacrificing himself against the Rocketman. He disliked curved swords and built his own style around straight cuts and sharp right angles. His personal creed was to perform a hundred good deeds daily, and his hatred of violence extended to a vegan diet.

Highly regarded within the Marines, T Bone was kept stationed at headquarters reporting straight to the upper ranks. His seemingly frail legs carried him sprinting across the Sea Train rails through a storm, and he shrugged off a blow strong enough to shatter his own weapon. His swordsmanship, a discipline he called Right Angle Fencing, hurled angular flying slashes powerful enough to cleave metal trains, large ships, and giant Sea Kings clean in half, a feat only elite swordsmen like Zoro and Mihawk could match. That reputation for carving up vessels earned him the Ship Cutter epithet. As a Vice Admiral he could also wield Haki, and his named sword was the perfectly straight, finely decorated blade Bamboo.
