Toma

Slim and easygoing in bearing, Toma has a round, freckled face with oval eyes, fairly heavy black brows, and a faint smile. His shaggy brown hair reaches his neck, partly hidden under a worn white baseball cap tilted to one side, its bill chipped and a peeling MARINE patch on the front beneath a burgundy star-eyed smiley. He sports a leopard-print coat in white and grey trimmed with a thin blue line at the collar, a low-cut black shirt baring much of his chest, and striped grey-and-blue trousers bound above the ankle. A chained metal plate hangs at his neck, fingerless brown gloves cover his hands, and a blue sash holds a bone-cased katana capped with a red orb at the hilt.

Toma is strong-willed and refused to let the Shichiseiken bend him to its purpose the way it had the others. Honorable in combat, he stayed kind and devoted to Saga, looking after his commander's welfare and obeying him. Friendly and courteous by nature, he addressed even Luffy and Usopp with the polite suffix -san.

A formidable fighter, Toma matched Zoro blade for blade with little trouble, and months of practice at the Marine dojo had honed his swordsmanship. His greatest strength was his resolve: he held off the cursed sword's manipulation far longer than his comrades, growing conscious of how it warped them, and Saga had to add his own force to the blade's to finally break him. Oddly, once the weapon did seize control, Toma was beaten by Nami and Chopper, suggesting the clash between his will and the sword's grip dulled his fighting. He first led Zoro to the dojo with Bismarck and Boo Kong, then tested Luffy with a sudden slash and watched the captain fall to Saga. Sensing he would soon be lost, Toma begged Zoro for an honest duel, but Saga cut the fight short and seized command of him, sending him to guard Tonroh, where Nami and Chopper defeated him. Zoro's destruction of the Shichiseiken freed Toma and the rest, and he was last glimpsed grinning from the trees and tossing his cap into the air.
