SSG, the Marines' Special Science Group, was the research arm that engineered the World Government's most advanced weaponry. Once headed by Vegapunk on Egghead, it produced the Pacifista and the Seraphim before the Egghead Incident scattered its members.
Standing for Special Science Group, SSG operated as a scientific branch of the Marines under Vegapunk's direction. Its mandate was inventing cutting-edge technology and armaments for the World Government, a lineup that ran from the Pacifista to the Seraphim. The authorities hoped such creations could take over the role that the Seven Warlords had filled among the Three Great Powers. The island of Egghead served as the division's hub, and the entire staff lived there.
Before the timeskip, the team built the Seraphim, elite Pacifista carrying lunarian biology and modeled on the former Warlords as children. When the most recent Levely concluded and member nations voted the Warlord system out of existence, the reasoning leaned on these new weapons being capable replacements. Beyond armaments, the base housed researchers across many disciplines, with civilians spotted in clothing labeled for fields such as linguistics, history, petrology, and civil engineering.
Vegapunk founded and led the group as its main body, supported by satellites named Shaka, Pythagoras, Atlas, Edison, Lilith, and York, every codename tied to a celestial object. The Egghead Incident gutted the organization: Vegapunk was fatally stabbed by Saturn and Kizaru, several satellites lost their bodies, and York betrayed the others to chase Celestial Dragon status. Afterward only York and the Seraphim stayed loyal to the World Government, while the lower researchers fled a Buster Call, rescued by the Giant Warrior Pirates.

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....
