For the Future! Yamato and the Great Swordsmen's Pledge

Luffy climbs aboard Momonosuke and the pair start toward Kaidou, but the young master, terrified once he realizes how high they have risen, plummets back to the ground. On the rooftop, Yamato keeps trading blows with the Emperor while recalling the day Oden gave his life to spare the Scabbards, a sight that left the child Yamato in such turmoil that an accidental burst of Supreme King Haki flattened most of the guards trying to subdue them.

After Yamato proclaimed love for Oden and even claimed to be Oden, Kaidou chained the child inside the Sacred Cave, promising release after a month of reflection or sooner if Yamato agreed to join his crew. He left behind three imprisoned samurai with their swords and a single ration, daimyo who had risen up after Oden's execution.

Rather than harm Kaidou's son, the three warriors Ushimaru, Tempura, and Omusubi freed Yamato, fed him, and trained him. Yamato asked them to help read Oden's journal, recovered at the foot of Oden Castle, and together they followed its account of Roger borrowing Oden from Whitebeard, the voyage to Laugh Tale, and the prophecy that a new age would crash into the New World in twenty years. After ten days the samurai chose to break out and die free rather than rot as prisoners, comforted that fighters like Yamato would carry on. In the present, Yamato demands to know why Kaidou steals freedom from him and from Wano, and the Emperor answers that life offers no tidy questions and answers.

This Wano Country Arc installment debuts Uzuki Tempura and Fugetsu Omusubi and renders the journal flashback with all-new animation. Momonosuke's failed takeoff and the young Yamato's Haki outburst are anime additions, while the closing To Be Continued card shows Kaidou and the lightning trail left by his Raimei Hakke clash with Yamato.
