In episode 1111 of One Piece, Sentomaru urges Egghead's researchers to flee a coming massacre, S-Snake destroys Pythagoras, and the truth surfaces: York leaked Vegapunk's research months earlier, scheming to become both a Celestial Dragon and the sole surviving Vegapunk.
Kizaru's vessel bears down on Egghead carrying Saint Jaygarcia Saturn of the Five Elders. Forewarned by Stussy, Sentomaru orders the island's civilians to evacuate, cautioning that the Marines plan to bring even heavier force than they used during the Ohara Incident. The residents scramble to secure a ship before the reinforcements close in.
Inside the labs, Franky threatens S-Snake into reversing his petrification, but the weapon ignores him and crushes Pythagoras' severed head underfoot, finishing the satellite for good. Elsewhere, Robin, Chopper, and Atlas keep hunting for Vegapunk, with Atlas proposing they check a room long left abandoned.
While Sanji holds off S-Shark for menacing Nami, Luffy and Zoro fight alongside Lucci and Kaku against S-Bear and S-Hawk. S-Hawk quietly peels away, and Lucci deduces the Seraphim means to slaughter the weaker fighters to break the stronger ones' morale, sending Zoro and Kaku in pursuit. A flashback reveals that three months prior an anonymous tip told the World Government that Vegapunk was probing the Void Century. Cipher Pol ships dispatched to investigate kept vanishing, so the Five Elders branded it treason and ordered CP0 and the Marines to kill him, never expecting the Straw Hats to mount a defense.
In the basement Shaka's murderer finally shows her face: York, one of Vegapunk's own satellites, who confesses she betrayed him and killed Shaka to claim the rank of Celestial Dragon. The anime adds the Marine fleet's approach, the Sea Beast Weapons sinking CP5's ship, and York aiming her pistol at Vegapunk. This episode is the last to feature Kazuki Yao as Franky before his retirement from the role, and it debuts Guillotine, Hound, and Red King in flashback.

When I first decided to commit to watching One Piece seriously, I knew I was embarking on one of anime's longest and most beloved series. With over 100...

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....
