A Fleeting Moment of Happiness - Kumachi and Ginny

Roughly thirty years ahead of the present, Kuma and Ginny share a modest existence in a Sorbet Kingdom church. Each Sunday he draws out his people's suffering with his paw-based fruit, taking that pain quietly into himself so it can never come back to them. Their bond ripens into love, yet Kuma will not marry her, fearing she could meet the fate his own mother did, jailed merely for her tie to a captured man.

The realm suffers under Bekori, a grasping new king who cages anyone unable to meet his Heavenly Tribute. When Bekori cuts the island's southern district from the kingdom so its people can be lawfully enslaved, the memory of his own bondage drives Kuma to push back, and he and Ginny are caught and locked up. From the broader wrong that trailed the Ohara Incident, a new rebel band rises, the Freedom Fighters, headed by Ivankov and by Dragon, a Marine who walked out on the World Government once he saw its cruelty. Their strike on the palace frees the slaves and forces Bekori to scrap the law.

Kuma and Ginny sign on under Dragon as his foremost commanders, building the scattered Freedom Fighters up into a worldwide force, the Revolutionary Army. The hopeful stretch breaks off when Ginny, while leading the East Army, is carried off by an unknown attacker, a blow that wrecks both Dragon and Kuma; the episode jumps to a point fourteen years before the present to mark the loss. Bekori debuts in this entry, the eyecatch shows Jewelry Bonney and Bartholomew Kuma, and it falls within the Egghead Arc.
