The Lost History - Joy Boy, the First Pirate

Vegapunk's prediction of a catastrophic tremor that will drown the continents reaches audiences scattered across Fish-Man Island, Impel Down, Jaya, and Mary Geoise. Their reactions split sharply, with some treating the warning as truth and others dismissing the man as a liar. Once his timing proves accurate, doubt begins giving way to belief. The Elders, frantic to cut the feed, settle on slaughtering every living thing left on the island.

Walking away from his duel with the crew, Saturn heads for the power plant and smashes a snail mounted on a control board, yet nothing about the transmission stops. In response, the surviving Elders begin wiping out each remaining snail throughout the facility. Continuing the message, Vegapunk admits the two offenses that doomed him: pursuing limitless energy to advance humanity, and decoding the Poneglyphs to study the buried past. What that study revealed is Joy Boy, the original pirate of the Void Century, whose existence drove twenty nations to forge the alliance that grew into the World Government.

Even as the feed runs, the crew catches sight of the swelling Island Cloud above the Labophase. Edison has switched on the Island Clouds, drawing the formation out over the water and opening a possible escape route. The installment begins with an anime-original scene not drawn from the manga, depicting a figure resembling Icarus dropping into the ocean, a reference to one adapted chapter titled The Wings of Icarus.
