Years earlier, Vegapunk sat with Clover and discovered that the scholar's birth name, Clou D. Clover, placed him within the Will of D. Clover begged Vegapunk to safeguard and advance his work, but loyalty to the World Government led the scientist to decline. Once Clover perished in the assault on Ohara, Vegapunk traveled to the ruined island, recovered the books that had been hurled into the water, and found in them the resolve to carry the research onward. Back in the present, the satellites and the crew fight to break free of Egghead.

The Five Elders keep pounding both Emet and the scientist's orbiting satellites; the Iron Giant trades words with Luffy and supports him in battle until Ju Peter bites off the giant's arm. As Nusjuro bears down on the Thousand Sunny and threatens to trap it, Atlas knocks Lilith out so York cannot trace her, then faces Nusjuro alone, loses an arm, and detonates, her sacrifice buying just enough time for a Coup de Burst. Closing his message, Vegapunk predicts the Void Century's truth will surface soon, though at the price of the endangered races bound to figures like Pudding, King, and Kuma. When Saturn turns on Luffy's group, memories of her mother and father set Bonney ablaze; she shifts into her Nika form and joins Luffy in a combined blow against the Elder.
