Expecting the Black Cat Pirates to charge the village from the south, the crew oils the only sloped path and waits there. The raiders pick the northern shore instead, scattering the defenders just as Kuro sheds his disguise inside Kaya's mansion.
Convinced the assault will come up the south side, the crew sets up at the single sloped trail that leads into Syrup Village. They smear the incline with oil so that no attacker can keep their footing while heading toward the town.
At the estate, the butler returns while the heiress sleeps and Merry tends to the household. A custom pair of glasses, built so they will never slide off his nose, has been left for him as a gift. Kuro shatters them, exposing the pirate underneath. With the bladed gloves fitted over his fingers like a cat's claws, he cuts Merry down before slipping off to stand over the sleeping Kaya.
When dawn breaks, Jango brings the raiders ashore, but rather than the guarded southern route they choose a second way in along the northern coast, a passage Usopp had completely forgotten. Nami, Luffy, and Usopp sprint to head them off while Zoro stays pinned by the greased slope he cannot scale, and Luffy soon wanders off course.
At the northern shore Usopp opens fire with his slingshot, dropping a string of charging pirates. His attempt to buy the raiders off with the loot aboard their own vessel collapses once Nami intervenes. The Black Cat crew keeps pressing forward and the two defenders are nearly overwhelmed, until reinforcements close the gap and turn the fight. Watching his men fall behind schedule, Kuro resolves to walk down to the coast himself, swearing he will slaughter his whole crew should the scheme unravel. The installment also introduces two of Usopp's tools, Makibishi Jigoku and the Namari Boshi shot.
For its English broadcast, 4Kids Entertainment merged the eleventh and twelfth entries into a single installment, which became their eleventh edited episode. The episode falls within the Syrup Village Arc.

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....
In Episode 12, the Black Cat Pirates are turned back after Usopp and Nami hold the northern shore until reinforcements arrive to help drive the raiders back, though the fight is still underway when Kuro decides to step in himself.
In Episode 12, the butler serving Kaya's household is revealed to be the pirate captain Kuro, who shatters the special glasses left for him and dons bladed cat claw gloves before cutting down Merry.
Rather than the south route that the crew had greased and defended, the Black Cat Pirates row ashore along Syrup Village's northern coast, a path Usopp had completely forgotten to guard.
After Kuro reveals himself, he cuts down the butler Merry with his bladed cat claw gloves before quietly slipping off to stand over the sleeping Kaya.
Episode 12 introduces two of Usopp's signature tools, the Makibishi Jigoku and the Namari Boshi shot, which he uses against the charging Black Cat Pirates on the northern shore.
