Episode 143 closes the Ruluka Island Arc. The Going Merry breaks free of the Rainbow Mist while taking heavy damage, and a squad of Marines who turn out to be Henzo's long-lost friends, flung 50 years backward in time, finally arrests Wetton.
The crew's escape from the warped fog comes at a price, the Going Merry emerging battered after forcing its way out of the Rainbow Mist. On Ruluka, the corrupt mayor's reign ends when a group of imposing Marines descends to take him into custody. Their identities deliver the episode's twist, for they are the aged versions of Henzo's childhood companions, swept half a century into the past when the Mist collapsed.
Wetton is finally brought to justice, his scheme to plunder Ape's Concert undone. The reunion theme that drove the arc pays off as the displaced friends reappear, resolving the mystery of where the Mist's distorted time had carried them. The damaged Merry signals the Straw Hats' departure from Ruluka and their return to open water.
This marks the final episode of the Ruluka Island Arc. It is also the last One Piece episode handled by 4Kids Entertainment, whose numbering reached only 104 because that company skipped and combined the equivalent of 39 episodes. During the eyecatch break the broadcast plays Nico Robin's theme while displaying an image of Roronoa Zoro. Although the arc is filler, this installment loosely adapts four pages of Chapter 218.
