The seagoing restaurant Baratie and its hot-tempered sous chef Sanji make their entrance. Searching for a cook to join them, the Straw Hats turn up just as an arrogant Marine learns not to waste a single bowl of Sanji's cooking.
Johnny tells how his hunting partner Yosaku came down with a baffling illness, forcing the two to halt at a rock so he could rest, the same rock Luffy's cannon happened to hit, which Johnny read as a deliberate strike. The crew take the sickly Yosaku aboard, and Nami pegs his condition as scurvy from a shortage of vitamin C. Lime juice sets him right, and once he is settled, the group resolves to recruit a real cook for their meals, steering toward the Baratie, a restaurant raised atop a ship.
They pull in just as Marine lieutenant Fullbody shows up for a date and tells his men to wreck the Going Merry. Luffy bats the cannonball back with his rubber body, but it tears into the Baratie's roof instead, gouging a hole and hurting head chef Zeff. Lacking the money to pay for repairs, Luffy is condemned by Zeff to a year of chore duty, with no room to haggle.
Inside, Fullbody picks a fight with the sous chef Sanji after trying to drop a fly into his soup. As the spat escalates, Fullbody flips the table and spills the soup across the floor, and Sanji, livid that the food he made has been squandered, lays into the lieutenant with a barrage of kicks. The racket pulls the rest of the crew into the restaurant to find out what is going on.
