Here Comes Shanks! The War of the Best is Finally Over!

Shanks plants himself in front of Akainu while his crew hauls the badly bleeding Luffy and Jinbe aboard the submarine and races to give them transfusions. The Marines hear that Shanks and his crew had tangled with the Emperor Kaido only one day earlier. Buggy comes apart at the sight of Shanks, who flings him the straw hat to deliver to Luffy and dangles the promise of a treasure map to win his cooperation. Reluctant but bought, Buggy hurls the hat into Law's grasp just as the vessel starts to slip beneath the surface.

Memories of his first encounter with Luffy return to Shanks, the day he gave up an arm to pull the boy from the sea, and he accepts that their next meeting waits until Luffy has grown into a great pirate. The submarine dives. Cursing the escape, Akainu signals his comrades, and Aokiji looses an Ice Age while Kizaru pours down a Yasakani shower, yet Jean Bart drives the craft out of danger. Hancock commandeers a Marine ship and invokes her Warlord standing to chase Luffy, masking his flight.

Buggy howls at Shanks over the worthless map, and Shanks only laughs that he simply wanted to enjoy the company of an old friend. He moves past Marco and tells him there is no reason left to fight, while Mihawk reminds the protesting Marines that he agreed to oppose Whitebeard's crew and nothing more, then leaves. Squaring off with Teach, Shanks asks if he means to push things further. Amused, Teach declines, saying he already holds what he sought, and the Blackbeard Pirates pull out. Sengoku reverts to his human shape and grants Shanks his wish that Ace and Whitebeard be laid to rest with dignity instead of strung up as trophies. The admiral calls the war finished, and Shanks gazes in sorrow at the dead.

The Heart Pirates submerge with Luffy and Jinbe and begin emergency surgery while dodging the attacks of Aokiji and Kizaru. Shanks hands Buggy the straw hat to carry back to Luffy and convinces both Mihawk and the Blackbeard Pirates to stand aside. He confronts Blackbeard, who elects to withdraw rather than clash with him. Sengoku honors Shanks' request to bury Ace and Whitebeard with respect and announces that the war is at an end. This installment closes out the Marineford Arc.

Heavy filler pads the single chapter to a full runtime. Every conversation carried over from the manga is fitted with added lines and lingering pauses, the flashbacks of Luffy belonging to Shanks and Buggy are drawn out, and rather than simply reporting the brothers' state, Law is shown actually starting his operation. The strikes that Aokiji and Kizaru aim at the Heart Pirates get a more detailed treatment. A look at the casualties and grieving crews that the war left behind is folded in, Yasopp and Van Augur unsling their rifles during the standoff between Shanks and Blackbeard, and Garp is shown directing soldiers to help the wounded. A continuity error has Limejuice change between shots, losing then regaining his sword and clothing. The episode brings over material from around Chapter 580.
