A Dangerous Love - Dancing Girl Violet

To a roaring crowd, the announcer puts the Mera Mera no Mi on display and cautions that winning it means outlasting fighters drawn from every corner of the New World. He parades the Donquixote Family entrants on a screen, naming Dellinger, Senor Pink, Machvise, and Lao G, then presents Diamante as the colosseum's current operator. The audience erupts, impatient for the bouts to start. Sure of the prize's value, Luffy vows to seize it and dismisses Franky's warning that the contest could be a Doflamingo trap.

Still searching for the culprit behind his stolen sword, Zoro keeps moving, but Sanji abandons the chase the instant a stunning dancer catches his eye. Violet wraps him in a close embrace to shield them both from the soldiers hunting her, confiding that she stabbed a man and now has a price on her head. Charmed, Sanji agrees to protect her as far as the next city, where she means to kill a man with his aid.

Reaching the Corrida Colosseum, Luffy and Franky look on as police chase a one-legged soldier who ducks inside, beyond the reach of the law. The soldier volunteers to haul their luggage and fills Luffy in on the competition. Determined to claim his brother's Devil Fruit, Luffy gets ready to enter.

The flame fruit, the Mera Mera no Mi, goes on display once more as the prize, and the Donquixote Family fighters along with operator Diamante are introduced. Luffy decides to compete despite Franky's suspicion of a setup. Sanji crosses paths with Violet, who enlists him as her bodyguard after saying she stabbed a man, planning to use him to kill someone. Luffy and Franky reach the arena, encounter the one-legged Thunder Soldier, and Luffy heads off to sign up.

This episode launches a broad roster of newcomers, among them Violet, Cavendish, Bellamy's rivals Elizabello II and Dagama, the Chinjao Family trio of Sai, Boo, and Chinjao himself, plus Bobby Funk, Suleiman, Orlumbus, Jeet, Abdullah, and the Donquixote pair Senor Pink and Dellinger. Rather than the manga's plain silhouettes, the anime offers actual looks at competitors who turn up later. Fresh material includes Zoro using Observation Haki to find the thieving fairy, Violet throwing Sanji a rose he tucks into his pocket, Kin'emon distracted by a vegetable merchant, and Sanji preparing a meal for Violet at a restaurant. A handful of on-screen Spanish names and signs are rendered incorrectly.
