A O Pirates

Led by the pirate A O, this crew earned a reputation in the New World and ranked among the many subordinate bands sailing under Whitebeard before the Emperor's death. Their formal name went unrevealed until much later in the series, when their downfall at the hands of Weevil was depicted.

The crew's history with Whitebeard began as enmity. Under three years before the Summit War they were still independent and had actually invaded his territory. In time, though, they switched from rivals to allies, folding into the enormous family of crews that Edward Newgate held dear. As one of the forty-three subordinate groups, they sailed to Marineford to help free Portgas D. Ace from execution and fought through the entire war. Both Ace and Whitebeard perished there, the former to Akainu and the latter to the Blackbeard Pirates, and the heartbroken A O Pirates withdrew with the other survivors to lay their dead to rest.

The crew takes its name from its captain, A O, who led it through its independent days, its alliance with Whitebeard, and the carnage of Marineford. Their strength let them survive the New World and the war itself, but it proved no defense against Edward Weevil, the self-styled son of Whitebeard, who single-handedly destroyed the whole crew, making them the sixteenth of Whitebeard's former subordinate bands to fall to him.
