Overview

Sitting on Drum Island, this kingdom built its reputation on medicine, home to remarkably skilled doctors. In its earlier days as the Drum Kingdom it answered to the island's royal house and enjoyed a kindly ruler. That stability collapsed when the old king died and his son Wapol inherited the crown, turning the once-prosperous land toward cruelty.

Role

Under Wapol, the kingdom's medical legacy was twisted into a tool of control. He decreed that the twenty finest physicians, the Isshi-20, would serve him alone, and the remaining doctors were either driven out or killed. When the Blackbeard Pirates raided the island, Wapol fled in terror, leaving the realm without any governing power and allowing Dr. Kureha to settle into his abandoned castle. His later attempt to reclaim the throne coincided with the Straw Hats' arrival in search of a doctor for an ailing Nami.

Notable Members

Wapol reigned as the kingdom's despotic king until Luffy launched him clear out of the realm with a Gomu Gomu no Bazooka after he tried to destroy Dr. Hiriluk's flag atop Drum Castle. With him gone, the people chose Dalton as their new king, and he renamed the country Sakura in memory of Hiriluk and his dream of using cherry blossoms to cure the diseases of the heart, even adopting Hiriluk's Jolly Roger as the national flag. Dr. Kureha and the young reindeer Chopper are also rooted in this land.
