The Ganzack Pirates were a non-canon crew captained by Ganzack, debuting in the very first One Piece OVA. They enslaved an island's people to build a colossal warship and were brought down by Luffy, Zoro, and Nami working with the captives.
This East Blue band of pirates answered to Ganzack and first appeared in the original animated special, Defeat Him! The Pirate Ganzack. Their Jolly Roger takes the form of a crab, with the central skull bordered by two trios of spiny legs, a red pincer above each set, and a pair of eyeballs perched on top of the skull. Ganzack alone carried a bounty of 10,000,000 berries, a sum regarded as notable for the East Blue waters where the crew operated.
The crew was strong enough to seize Medaka's home island, yet they fell with little effort once the Straw Hats intervened. Their true ambition centered on a gigantic warship, a 150-meter vessel built to carry Ganzack toward conquering the Grand Line. Constructed beneath the Devil's Tower by enslaved islanders, the ship was an elaborate machine fitted with spikes, cannons, and special armaments, including a chamber housing the Plesiosaur and a massive dynamite gun mounted atop the fortress capable of devastating wide areas. The Plesiosaur itself could sink small boats with ease.
Ganzack led the crew, supported by underlings such as Alto and Chico. The pirates had overrun Medaka's island and forced its inhabitants into building the warship. When Luffy, Zoro, and Nami crossed their path, the Plesiosaur smashed their dinghy, and Nami briefly agreed to join Ganzack after recognizing his reputation. Luffy infiltrated the Devil's Tower, dueled Ganzack, and was beaten, leaving the trio shackled while the captain celebrated.
The islanders, sparked by Herring's stolen dynamite, rose in rebellion. Ganzack unveiled his ultimate weapon, the tower itself, towing it away to reveal the full warship before blasting away part of the island. In the final clash Zoro cut down the crew while the villagers and Nami sank the Plesiosaur, and Luffy launched Ganzack into the sky, where he smashed into his own shell and exploded. Years later Ganzack reappeared briefly, dozing off in a bar and entering the Uta World during One Piece Film: Red.

When I first decided to commit to watching One Piece seriously, I knew I was embarking on one of anime's longest and most beloved series. With over 100...

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....
