Nerona Family

The Nerona Family stands among the First Twenty, the royal houses that established the World Government, and one of the nineteen clans that resettled in Mary Geoise to become World Nobles. In the present day it is the line that holds true power over the entire World Government. The name carries hidden meaning, since the katakana for Nerona, traced as Chinese stroke order, can form the character for "god," and the word also recalls the historical painting of Nero's torches.

For the past eight centuries the family has been led by Saint Nerona Imu. Through some unexplained means, Imu endured from the Void Century into the present to become the King of the World and the secret supreme authority behind the government, ruling from the Empty Throne. After Sabo carried what he witnessed at the Levely back to the Revolutionary Army, Emporio Ivankov pieced together that the shadowy occupant of the throne was one of the First Twenty, and went further to speculate that a past wielder of the Ope Ope no Mi had granted Imu immortality through the Perennial Youth Operation.

Imu is the only member of the family ever identified, and the only one known to be alive. Hailing from the Void Century, Imu has no recorded descendants, and it remains unclear whether any ever existed.
