Overview

This was a secretive band of shinobi assembled to keep Kurozumi Orochi safe from anyone who meant him harm during his time as shogun of Wano Country. Their skill in ninjutsu was considerable enough that Shinobu rated them highly, and their talent for slipping through the shadows let them ambush even an intruder as perceptive as Nico Robin. By Fukurokuju's own count the corps numbered roughly five thousand. For all that loyalty was supposedly their trade, only the captain truly stood by Orochi, and the rank and file held little regard for samurai honor.

Role

Their purpose was guarding the shogun and rooting out threats before they reached him, work they carried out from concealment rather than open confrontation. When the group's allegiance was tested, that thin loyalty showed: the moment Kaidou, the very man who had turned on their master, offered them a choice between joining him or dying, Fukurokuju submitted at once and his subordinates followed with visible relief. From that point the squad effectively operated as an arm of the Beasts Pirates.

Notable Members

Fukurokuju served as captain throughout the group's existence. Far back in their history the ninja had answered to the Kouzuki dynasty under Sukiyaki, and Raizo once belonged to their ranks before leaving after a kunoichi spurned him. Around twenty-three years before the present, as Oden publicly debased himself, the corps pledged itself to Orochi, while Shinobu broke away from the palace rather than follow. Daikoku and Hanzo were among the members who clashed with the Straw Hats during the Wano arc. The yakuza boss Hyougoro, though wracked by Queen's Ice Oni, eventually struck down the remaining Oniwabanshu and Mimawarigumi who had thrown in with Kaidou.
