Overview

Shoujou heads a band whose trade combines treasure hunting with sonar-style exploration, using echoed sound to search the seas. Within the Saruyama Alliance, they are one of three parties, standing beside Mont Blanc Cricket and the Masira Pirates. Green hair modeled on the captain crowns the ape skull on their flag, which rests over a pair of crossed bones. The phrase written underneath, mori no hito, translates to man of the forest and points back to the Malay roots behind the word orangutan.

Role

How strong the whole crew is remains unrecorded, yet their captain alone holds a bounty of 36,000,000 berries and proved able to badly damage the Going Merry, along with his own hull by accident, purely through his voice. Backed by that power, they claimed a coastal patch of Jaya called Mouth Bay as their turf. Serving under Shoujou are the Utan Divers, who support his echolocation efforts. Their vessel, the Utan Sonar, wears an orangutan head as its figurehead, uses tall trees in place of masts, carries hull doors with ladders that let the divers enter and exit the sea, and mounts one enormous paddle on each side.

Notable Members

Shoujou commands the crew, with the Utan Divers rounding out its ranks. Eight years earlier, after reading Noland's story as told within Liar Noland, he and his sworn brother Masira joined Mont Blanc Cricket in his search for Shandora, the sunken City of Gold. The crew debuted when the Straw Hats crossed to the far side of Jaya in search of Cricket. Shoujou blocked their route and demanded a toll, then turned violent on the Going Merry once Luffy mentioned defeating Masira. Following the Straw Hats' meeting with Cricket, both crews warmed to them and helped modify the Merry for the voyage to Skypiea. When Luffy struck the golden Shandorian belfry bell and proved the sky island real, Shoujou and Masira chose to follow Cricket toward their next goal, and the alliance later turned up hunting the island of dreams called Nakrowa.
