Overview

Ame no Habakiri ranks among the twenty-one Great Grade swords, a katana forged by Kouzuki Sukiyaki, one of Wano's finest smiths, and treasured as his masterwork. Kouzuki Oden carried it alongside his other blade, Enma, and together those two swords were the only weapons ever to draw blood from Kaidou. After Oden's death the blade passed to his son, Kouzuki Momonosuke. Its name nods to a legendary sword from Japanese myth used to slay a great serpent.

Function

A medium-curved katana built in the Shobu Zukuri style, Ame no Habakiri wears an all-light color scheme to suit its heaven theme, a deliberate contrast to the dark Enma. Its golden trefoil tsuba matches Enma's, while a solid white lacquered grip and scabbard carry simple flower motifs and a cloud-shaped pommel. As the masterpiece of one of Wano's greatest swordsmiths, it stands on par with Enma and was said to be able to slice through the heavens.

In a master's grip the blade delivers tremendous cutting power. Paired with Enma and hardened by Ryuo, the Wano name for Armament Haki, Oden used it to cleave the mountain-sized Mountain God in a single stroke. It could trade blows with two Supreme Grade swords, Murakumogiri and Ace, the latter even while enduring a Supreme King Haki strike, and it stands as the only weapon ever to carve a lasting wound into the near-indestructible Kaidou in his dragon form.

Notable Users

Sukiyaki forged the sword, and his son Oden wielded it from the age of eighteen alongside Enma in his two-sword style, carrying it through battles inside and outside Wano. After Oden's death the blades passed to his wife Toki and were later recovered by Sukiyaki, who kept them as heirlooms for Oden's children. Momonosuke at first refused the sword, feeling unworthy of his father's heirloom, but took it up after being aged twenty years to announce Kaidou's defeat and his own claim to the shogunate.
