Buggy Balls

Overview

Buggy Balls are powerful munitions used by Buggy. The standard rounds are red cannonballs marked with his Jolly Roger on the face, and when fired they unleash huge, destructive blasts. Buggy boasted that these shells, working alongside his Bara Bara no Mi powers, would let his crew seize the Grand Line, though for all his arrogance he remained terrified of Whitebeard.

Function

The blasts are devastating: one shell was enough to wipe out a whole row of buildings during the attack on Orange Town. The weapon is not foolproof, however, as Luffy bounced a third shot meant for him straight back with his Gomu Gomu no Fusen, blowing up the pub it had been launched from. Later, while locked up in Impel Down, Buggy revealed the Muggy Ball, a tiny variant roughly the size of a marble or bullet. Small enough to hide in a secret pocket, it keeps the full explosive force of the larger version, functioning much like a grenade. A still smaller non-canon offshoot, the Mini Buggy Ball, appears in a video game wielded by a member of the Set Sail Pirates.

Notable Users

Buggy invented and relied on all versions of the ammunition. He first deployed the standard balls against Orange Town, then used a Muggy Ball in Impel Down against the Jailer Beast Minotaurus, kicking it from the tip of his shoe to badly wound the creature. He also tried a Muggy Ball on Dracule Mihawk, only for the swordsman to deflect it right back at him.
