Gryphon

Gryphon is a saber and the primary armament of the Emperor Shanks. It runs longer than a typical saber, fitted with an extended green grip and a rounded beige guard, plus a broad, slim sleeve wrapping the hilt. Shanks stows it in a blue scabbard on his right hip yet draws and swings it with that same right arm, a quirk likely tied to the loss of his left, presumably dominant, arm.

Although its provenance and grade have never been disclosed, Gryphon is plainly potent and tough. It has crossed edges with Edward Newgate's Murakumogiri and, by implication, Mihawk's Yoru, each counted among the twelve Supreme Grade swords. When wrapped in Armament Haki, the saber blocked Sakazuki's magma fist without taking a scratch, and Shanks can also wreath it in a fiery aura against opponents. His signature strike, Kamusari, charges the blade with Conqueror's Haki for a horizontal slash that tore through Eustass Kid's Damned Punk and wrecked the Victoria Punk, the same technique once used by his old captain Gol D. Roger.

Shanks is the sword's owner and only wielder in the story. Numerous game-exclusive moves are tied to it, such as Shin Sekai e no Ichigeki, Akagami, and Takami no Ichigeki. Named for the mythical griffin, the saber was personified by Oda as an old man in an SBS, and notably both Shanks' brother Shamrock and father Garling carry sabers of their own, with Shamrock's Cerberus having eaten a Devil Fruit.
