Summary

Awakening with a gasp, Jewelry Bonney warns the Straw Hats that a creature has been pursuing her and now lurks directly beneath their vessel. The thing surfaces as a colossal metal shark, hurling the Thousand Sunny skyward. Jinbe spots that Luffy, Chopper, and Bonney have tumbled overboard, so he hands the wheel to Franky and plunges after them. Franky engages the ship's hidden turbine drive to flee, yet the shark answers with torpedoes that capsize the Sunny and dump the remaining crew into the churning water.

Far away at the G-14 base, Tashigi tends to the youngsters brought back from Punk Hazard, who are gradually returning to ordinary size through medicine. Her superior, Vice Admiral Doll, wants Helmeppo quieted. Helmeppo and fellow SWORD operative Hibari are pleading with Rear Admiral Prince Grus to mount a rescue for Koby, held by the Blackbeard Pirates, but Grus rejects every angle, including borrowing a Seraphim from nearby Egghead, since contact with Drake has also been lost.

Back on shore, Jinbe gets Luffy's party to dry land. Bonney, restored to adulthood, thanks Luffy for the rescue while still naming him an enemy, and explains that they have washed up on Egghead, the World Government island said to sit five centuries ahead of its time and home to Vegapunk's laboratory. She has come to confront the scientist. Out at sea, the towering robot lifts the Sunny clear of the waves, and its pilot emerges grumbling that the shark was meant only to scout and fire, not devour ships she wanted to recover. She announces herself as Dr. Vegapunk, stunning the crew.

Notes

The cover continues the Germa 66 side story, with the Vinsmoke siblings and Caesar Clown breaking free in its nineteenth installment. As trivia, the Sunny's turbine drive debuted in the special Glorious Island, counting among the few non-canon elements that were later made canonical. The chapter belongs to the Egghead Arc and runs alongside its Germa 66 side serial.
