Vinsmoke Ichiji

Ichiji is recognizable by his red hair and the looping six-shaped brows worn by all the Vinsmokes, with three pronounced cowlicks combed over the right of his head. His body is slim and long in the leg, sitting just shy of Niji's height, and a flame-encircled number one is inked onto his right arm. Battle calls for a crimson raid suit paired with white gauntlets, a cape, and sunglasses; outside it he leans toward a dark collared shirt above a pale cravat and light pants. Where his brothers wear dark royal cloaks, his runs pale, and in boyhood he sported a numbered red shirt and no eyewear.

Pride in his royal blood governs him: he looks down on servants and common folk and labels Sanji's gentleness a disgrace, while showing little interest in the politics of his imperial nation. Surgery at his father's hand wiped out his capacity for empathy before birth, leaving him indifferent to pain, to the deaths of his own soldiers, and to the threat of his own demise. Steadier and more mission-bound than his short-fused younger brothers, he favors watching from the edges, though pushing him too far uncovers a brutal side, as Sanji learned through years of childhood beatings. Even with that built-in coldness he settles his debts, downing Oven to repay Sanji for a saved life, and like his siblings he goes weak-kneed at the sight of a lovely woman.

His rank hands him sway over Germa's citizens and over the foot soldiers of Germa 66, troops he may command to die in his place; a Germa unit under him and Niji finished a war of two years inside four hours. Genetic engineering equipped him with an exoskeleton plus superhuman power, swiftness, and toughness, and a quick healing rate keeps him in the fight even after candy-coated bullets punched through his hide. The ability behind his nickname fires piercing beams of light from his hands and eyes and loads explosive force into his blows, expressed through Sparking Figure and Sparking Valkyrie along with the combination strike Black Bug. Rounding out his gear is a fire- and bullet-resistant raid suit fitted with jet boots.
