Summary

Drained from the chase, Nami argues with herself about standing her ground against the two agents, then keeps running anyway. Just as Daz Bonez lunges, Zoro cuts in to save her and notices at once that the attack has split a building clean behind them. Mr. 1 reveals that eating the Supa Supa no Mi made him a living blade, and he identifies Zoro as the man who cut down a hundred bounty hunters back at Whisky Peak. His partner recalls that the previous Mr. 7 once tried to draw Zoro into Baroque Works; Zoro answers that he refused, since he would only sign on as the boss, and that he killed Mr. 7 when the agent forced the issue. He adds that even now he would still turn the offer down, having seen how the group operates.

As the swordsman engages Mr. 1, his partner breaks off to chase Nami, who has slipped away again. Tucked out of sight, Nami remembers pleading with Usopp to craft her a weapon so she could pull her weight in the fight for Vivi; he agreed once he had the right funds and materials, and she threw her arms around him in joy. Promising to stop fleeing now that she is armed, she is run through the wall by Miss Doublefinger, a Toge Toge no Mi user whose body sprouts spikes. Nami brings up her Clima-Tact and boasts it commands the weather, yet her first swing only looses a flurry of doves and the next a spray of flowers. Muttering curses at Usopp, she slams the staff down while the assassin sneers in mock sympathy.

Key Events

Zoro's history with Baroque Works comes to light: recruited during his bounty-hunting years, he refused on the condition of leadership and slew the earlier Mr. 7. Mr. 1 is confirmed as a Supa Supa no Mi user with a steel-edged body, and Miss Doublefinger as a spike-bodied Toge Toge no Mi user. Nami brings the Clima-Tact into a fight for the first time, though it only manages harmless party stunts. Built for her by Usopp, the weapon marks the beginning of her taking a far more active part in battles.
