Chapter 208 delivers Pell's sacrifice as the falcon warrior carries the ticking bomb high into the sky to spare Alubarna, while below Luffy breaks Crocodile's hook and vows to surpass him.
Watching the device count down, Vivi recalls Crocodile branding her ideals sickening and insisting nothing she does can rescue the kingdom. The crew realizes the blast will still flatten most of Alubarna across a five-kilometer radius and begin to panic. Vivi, weeping in fury at a man who keeps turning everyone into fools, does not notice a figure stepping up behind her.
In the chamber Luffy hauls himself upright, insisting Crocodile cannot beat him. When the Warlord swings his hook, Luffy slips it, redirects the strike into the ground with his leg, and snaps the hook clean off, declaring he will surpass the man. The figure behind Vivi is revealed as Pell, who calmly recalls protecting the Nefertari household as his proudest honor, a flashback showing him scolding a young Vivi for endangering herself and training to guard what matters. Pell transforms into a falcon, snatches the bomb in his talons, and soars upward as Vivi and the crew look on in shock. Naming himself the guardian who repels all enemies of the royal house, he climbs higher and higher until the bomb erupts in a massive blast, leaving Alubarna untouched.
The chapter's pivotal beats are Pell carrying the bomb skyward to detonate it at the cost of his own life, saving the city, and Luffy declaring he cannot lose to Crocodile because he is destined to be Pirate King. The cover continues Hatchan's Sea-Floor Stroll, with Hatchan catching the Macro Pirates and smashing their ship apart with a barrage of punches.
The guardian spirit is Pell, the falcon-transforming protector of the Nefertari royal family, who grabs the ticking bomb in his talons and flies it high into the sky to save Alubarna, sacrificing himself in the blast.
Pell transforms into a giant falcon, snatches the bomb before it can detonate on the ground, and climbs as high as he can before it explodes far above the city, sparing Alubarna from destruction.
When Crocodile swings his hook at him, Luffy dodges, redirects the strike into the ground with his leg, and snaps the hook clean off, vowing to surpass Crocodile.
The Straw Hats realize the bomb would have flattened most of Alubarna across a five kilometer radius had it detonated on the ground, making Pell's sacrifice essential to saving the city.
After breaking Crocodile's hook, Luffy declares that he will surpass him, insisting that Crocodile cannot beat him.
