Bellamy the Hyena

Deep in the woods of Jaya, Luffy and Chopper sprint away from huge mantises that shred trees and netting around them. Chopper spots a grinning South Bird perched above and concludes it is conducting the insects against them. Across the forest, the same singing draws swarms toward the rest of the crew: Sanji boots away enormous ladybugs near Nami, the group fends off a salt-shy slug, Zoro squares off with beetles, and Luffy nearly grabs poisonous bees before Chopper hauls him back. The mocking bird's calls keep summoning more creatures.

At the Saruyama Alliance base, Bellamy gloats over a golden South Bird statue while a bloodied Cricket protests the theft. Sarquiss strikes with a Falcon Slash that Masira absorbs, and Shoujou retaliates with his Wail of Destruction before Bellamy springs forward on his Bane Bane legs, blasting Shoujou clear through the building and into the water. Bellamy taunts Cricket that the golden city was only Noland's fantasy, telling him dreams never come true. Cricket lights a cigarette and snaps back that a coward who cannot even battle his own dreams has no business lecturing anyone about piracy, leaving Bellamy stunned.

The Straw Hats reunite empty-handed, none having caught a South Bird. When one bird flies down purely to jeer at them, Robin sprouts hands on it and slams it to the earth. Returning to base, the crew finds Cricket, Masira, and Shoujou battered and the Going Merry wrecked. Cricket insists the lost gold no longer matters and vows the whole alliance will repair the vessel and launch them skyward before dawn.

Zoro discovers Bellamy's symbol carved into a tree, which Nami recognizes. With roughly three hours until sunrise, Luffy borrows a sword, asks Robin whether the shore route reaches Mock Town, and races off to confront Bellamy, promising to return before daybreak.

The chapter confirms Bellamy is the user of the Bane Bane no Mi, the spring-based Devil Fruit behind his Spring Sniper attack. The cover page belongs to the Animal Theater series, depicting Chopper in an oversized cowboy hat riding a bull on the frontier. The installment falls within the Jaya Arc and sets the stage for Luffy's one-sided rematch with Bellamy.
