Summary

The elderly man who collapsed earlier wakes beside Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper. He gives his name as Tonjit, a nomad, and thanks them for freeing him from the towering stilt he once built. For a full decade he stayed trapped up there, surviving on fruit picked from nearby trees, a confession that earns a blunt insult from Luffy. Tonjit also describes how the local animals all grew unusually long bodies, citing several examples.

Stepping inside his home in search of milk, he discovers that his village and its cattle have vanished. The only milk remaining has curdled into something he calls cheese, and eating it leaves him with food poisoning when no Straw Hat will touch the stuff. He then describes his people in more detail and explains the geography of Long Ring Long Land. According to Usopp, crossing the surrounding currents on foot would cost an extra twenty years before he could rejoin the tribe. With his horse, Tonjit explains, the trip shrinks to five years, and because he cannot sail, even a vessel offers him no shortcut.

Key Events

Outside, Tonjit reunites with Shelly, embracing the animal that waited so faithfully through the years. He rides her across the plains as the three pirates look on, intending to cross the land bridge once the tide pulls back. A gunshot then brings Shelly crashing down and throws her master from the saddle. Rushing over, Luffy spots a shadowy trio nearby and demands to know who they are. They name themselves members of the Foxy Pirates: their captain Foxy, joined by Porche and Hamburg. Luffy vows to take them down, which wounds Foxy's pride when no recognition follows, though the captain quickly recovers his swagger. A pirate's contest gets proposed, the Davy Back Fight, and Luffy agrees at once. Recalling the captainless crew met earlier, Usopp screams a warning that defeat would strip them of their own friends.
