Summary

Aboard the Going Merry, the raiders announce themselves as the Franky Family, bounty hunters out for the rewards on the crew's heads, and Zoro brushes them aside with ease using just two of his blades. Over in the Market District, Robin and Chopper drift through streets lined with mask vendors, and Robin observes that many of the masked townsfolk are chatting about a costume party in the works. Chopper bolts into a bookstore, but on her approach Robin crosses paths with a tall masked figure who breathes "CP9," and dread floods her face. By the time Chopper looks up inside, she is gone, and he hurries off in search of her.

Key Events

At a cashing counter, the dealer first quotes 100 million Belly for the gold, a figure that thrills Luffy and Usopp. Nami turns it down, pointing to Luffy's bounty and calling the price a cheat, so the dealer triples the sum, which the three happily take, walking out with a suitcase apiece each stuffed with 100 million. They return to the shipyard to learn the cost of repairs, only to be barred at the entrance by a worker. That worker, the long-nosed Kaku whom Luffy first confuses for Usopp, accepts Kokoro's letter and explains that Iceburg holds both the mayorship of Water 7 and the presidency of the Galley-La Company.

Notes

Once told where the crew's ship sits, Kaku declares he will go assess its condition and dives clean off a cliff, leaving the Straw Hats stunned. Iceburg reassures them this is just how Kaku operates, naming him a chief mechanic out of Dock 1. The cover depicts an enormous shape heaving up from the very pit Gedatsu had been excavating, with Gedatsu and Goro recoiling in surprise.
