Chapter 332, "Luffy vs. Usopp," stages the duel for the Going Merry. Usopp leans on trickery, Skypiea Dials, and dirty tactics against his captain's raw power, and the two trade blows until a gas explosion engulfs the deck.
A seething Nami harangues Luffy in a bid to call off the fight, but he barely registers her. When she keeps protesting, he cuts her short, reminding her that Usopp promised to return at ten and that there is no undoing what has been set in motion. He insists Usopp will not throw away his life and tells her to relax, which finally quiets her.
On deck, Zoro and Sanji bicker over their first run-in with the Franky Family, each faulting the other for not finishing them then. Nami breaks it up as a tearful Chopper returns, having been turned away while trying to treat Usopp, and recounts how their friend rejected their bond. Nami remarks that the whole crew feels as if it is coming apart.
At ten o'clock Usopp arrives to face Luffy outside the ship. He boasts that he knows his captain too well to lose and opens with a deception, faking a collapse and coughing up what turns out to be ketchup. He then blinds Luffy with a Flash Dial, pelts him with rotten eggs, and fires tabasco into his mouth, dropping him onto a field of caltrops.
Declaring he will win by any method, Usopp looses a shuriken that Luffy narrowly dodges. The rotten-egg stench, it turns out, masked clouds of gas Usopp had spread unnoticed; he ignites it, and the resulting blast rocks the area as the horrified crew can only watch. The chapter closes with the pair slumped and spent, water streaming off the Going Merry as though the ship itself is weeping.
