Chapter 679

Reviewing his broadcast, Caesar realizes the cage is empty and the G-5 troops have vanished from the gate. A subordinate bursts in to report that the pirates, Law, and the Marines have broken into the Building A lobby and are pressing forward. Stunned that his sanctuary has been breached, Caesar devises a trap: seal the corridor linking Buildings A and B, blast open a wall, and let Shinokuni pour in to wipe everyone out.

As the Straw Hats carve through both Caesar's defenders and the G-5 line, an alarm sounds and the passage gate begins lowering. Law warns Smoker the enemy means to cage them and flood the room, so they must rush everyone across before it shuts. They squeeze into Building B, but the cost is steep.

Luffy drops the guard Machete Run with a Gear 2 kick and spots the heavy door closing. Brook, Zoro, and Kin'emon hack a path through the Marine blockade, with Tashigi insisting her men prioritize escape over fighting. A cannon shot then shatters Building A's wall, letting the gas seep in. Tashigi is thrown to safety by her own soldiers, several of whom are petrified by the gas yet strike encouraging poses to urge the others onward.

A full layout of Caesar's lab is shown, and Vergo decides to ignore the trap and hunt Law and Smoker himself. Zoro and Tashigi cross paths for the first time since Arabasta.
