Chapter 830

A few hours earlier, Jinbe told the Sun Pirates he wished to join the Straw Hats, believing Luffy would become Pirate King and free Fish-Man Island. Aladine encouraged him to chase that dream, and the crew, recalling that Jinbe had become a pirate and served Big Mom to shield them, urged him to act for himself. Aladine's wife, Charlotte Praline, a half-hammerhead mermaid and one of Big Mom's daughters, feared abandonment but vowed to follow him anywhere. When Jinbe asked whether leaving would invite Big Mom's fury, Praline answered that no one who tried had ever survived.

In the present, Big Mom hears Jinbe out and accepts his departure, dismissing his reasons and declaring that pirates should live free. Yet because she loses a powerful asset, she insists he forfeit something in return, and a roulette wheel is wheeled out, its slots showing arms, legs, heads, and crowns.

As night falls the rescue team stands on a frozen sea of syrup, fending off giant aquatic ants. Pedro reveals he once sailed with Pekoms hunting poneglyphs for Nekomamushi until they were beaten in Totto Land. He explains that Inuarashi and Nekomamushi showed their Road Poneglyph to the Roger Pirates twenty-six years ago and now trust the Straw Hats the same way, so he urges the crew to steal Big Mom's copy while they are here. He asks Luffy to draw attention during the rescue so he can slip in, and Luffy agrees. By morning the team reaches Whole Cake Island, where Luffy spots a figure waiting on the coast.

The chapter introduces Charlotte Praline, the series' first half-mermaid, and details Pedro and Pekoms' past as explorers gathering poneglyphs for the Mokomo rulers.
