Chapter 77

Lost in thought about himself, Saitama runs into King on an empty street, and the two fall into a meaningful exchange. King shares a piece of wisdom, telling Saitama that being the strongest hero does not automatically make him the best one. He then invites Saitama over for video games and pledges to play with only two fingers, prompting Saitama to insist that this time he will finally beat the handicapped King.

Elsewhere, a wounded Garou flees after losing to Watchdog Man. He reflects that his techniques were built for fighting people, yet Watchdog Man moved like a beast on all fours and, with his strength, shrugged off every attack. Garou eventually blunders into Saitama and King and decides to go after King. Just as he winds up to strike, Saitama kicks him and sends him smashing into a brick wall. Saitama then tells King that he hopes to one day take on the Human Monster, not realizing it is Garou, and adds that such a creature might even prove stronger than himself.

King advises Saitama that raw strength does not equal being the best hero and invites him to play video games. A beaten Garou, fresh from his loss to Watchdog Man, wanders into the pair and moves to attack King, only for Saitama to kick him into a wall. Saitama voices his wish to fight the Human Monster, unaware that he just struck Garou.

Released on June 22, 2017, this seventy-seventh chapter is part of the Super Fight Arc and appears in Volume 15. Its Japanese title, Teitai to Seicho, is rendered by Viz as Stagnation and Growth. The chapter is adapted in Episode 21 of the anime, with Tatsumaki and Fubuki on the cover. In the Tonari no Young Jump release, this chapter's title was swapped with that of Chapter 76.
