Appearance

Tall and elderly, Kajiki has a fair complexion lined with wrinkles across his forehead and under his blue eyes, with sharp cheekbones standing out. He works in a black shirt with purple sleeves, a dark blue jacket, grey trousers, brown work gloves, and black sandals.

Personality

Kajiki is stern and exacting, quick to scold his crew over sloppy mistakes and insistent that every repair be paid for. Beneath the gruffness he is genuinely kind, going out of his way for people in trouble and keeping a careful eye on those close to him. He holds no allegiance in the region's politics, seeing little to choose between Kirigakure and the Funato since both merely fight to rule the seas, and he distrusts each. Even so, once he learns his apprentice is caught up in the war, he throws his weight behind the effort, braving a fierce storm for the Leaf ninja and later agreeing to keep the boy under his supervision.

History

Though born to fishermen, Kajiki had no love for their trade and became a shipwright instead, eventually the finest in the Land of Water and a sailor able to hold a course through the roughest seas. He took the young Ikada as his apprentice, sensing a mystery in the boy's past but choosing not to pry. When the Funato war erupts, Kajiki stumbles on a crippled ship crewed by Mist and Leaf shinobi and tows it to his port, waiving the rescue but charging Kagura for the repairs. As the vessel is mended, a nighttime Funato raid is beaten back by Denki and Iwabee, and Kajiki grows uneasy when Ikada slips away without a word.

Ikada soon resurfaces leading Araumi Funato's forces in a declaration of war, and Kajiki throws in with Boruto, Sarada, and Mitsuki, sailing them through a violent storm toward the Sixth Mizukage in the belief that Boruto can reach the kindness buried under Ikada's hatred. Lending Team 7 his own boat for that final talk, he sees Boruto's persuasion succeed; with the Funato defeated, Ikada is placed under Kajiki's constant watch, the old shipwright bluntly noting that he had been short-handed ever since the boy first left.
