The Boy from the Isle of Shipbuilders

With Denki unable to mend the broken ship parts, Kagura figures they will have to row a lifeboat to the nearest island for help. Boruto, overcome by heatstroke, tumbles into the ocean and is pulled up by a figure with webbed fingers, but when he wakes, Iwabee insists he simply fainted on deck. A passing vessel carries a boy who matches the figure Boruto saw, yet the boy grows flustered and a companion swears he never left the ship. Kagura identifies the older man as Kajiki, a celebrated shipbuilder from an island north of Kirigakure. The boy proudly names Kajiki the finest builder in the Land of Water, earns a scolding, then introduces himself as Ikada, Kajiki's apprentice. Told the group's plight, Kajiki decides the repairs cannot happen at sea and has Ikada rig their ship to tow the damaged one.

On the shipbuilders' island, Ikada offers a tour, and when Boruto notices his hands are not webbed, he apologizes for the mix-up. The refugees from Doto Island are welcomed to stay, but the ship Kagura wants for the return to Kirigakure is unavailable since the local craft all sailed off to fight the Funato. Kajiki agrees to repair their vessel in exchange for labor, drafting Team 5 with Boruto pitching in. Kagura, Sarada, and the swordsmen aim to reach the Mizukage while Mitsuki and Kawaki keep watch at the harbor. On a Funato-held island, Araumi hears his children's reports on their forces; Tenma brings word that the mobile fortress and those aboard it are lost, and Isari recalls Kagura as the warden during Araumi's prison break. Both leaders shrug the fortress off as a mere tool now spent.

As work continues, Boruto returns the idea notebook Ikada drops, and the craftsmen's talk turns to the Funato, the daimyo, and rumors that the Shinonome 1 disrupts the currents and troubles fishermen. Ikada explains that the Fourth Mizukage forced once-separate islands together, which is why unity is thin. Kagura manages to raise Misuno, who reports that Chojuro has left for the front and expects to summon Kagura as well. When an essential engine part runs out of stock, Kajiki refuses to let Ikada fetch a replacement with the Funato prowling nearby, so Boruto volunteers to guard him. Kajiki relents, and the two boys set out on a small craft Ikada built himself, his very first, carrying his dream of sailing the world in a ship of his own making, bound for the island where the parts are manufactured.

Boruto is rescued at sea by a webbed-handed figure and later meets Ikada, an apprentice shipwright who denies being that rescuer. Kajiki, a master builder, agrees to repair the stranded crew's ship in return for their help. The Funato leaders confirm the loss of their mobile fortress. When a needed engine part runs dry, Boruto and Ikada set off together on Ikada's homemade boat to obtain it.
