Submarine Reflection is Sailor Neptune's signature ocean technique, channeled through the Deep Aqua Mirror. Depending on the version and the moment, it either exposes a concealed enemy or unleashes a crushing surge of seawater, recurring across every incarnation in which she appears.
Submarine Reflection stands as Sailor Neptune's core sea-based power, and it accompanies her through every version of the franchise she takes part in. She routes it through the Deep Aqua Mirror, which lets the move serve two distinct purposes: locating something hidden or striking with the force of the ocean. Its earliest manga showing pairs it with Sailor Pluto's Chronos Typhoon to wipe out the resurrected Witches 5.
The mirror can be worked in two ways. As a scrying tool it pinpoints an enemy who is concealed or disguised, and as a weapon it fires a violent torrent of seawater at the target. The Crystal series leans on the water-blast form, sending a powerful surge crashing into the foe, while the anime shifts between revealing a weakness and hurling the wave. The four kanji tied to the manga name translate roughly to deep, sea, mirror, and shoot.
Sailor Neptune, including her Super Sailor Neptune form, is the technique's only user. In the 1990s anime she first employs it during Sailor Moon S, reading the Deep Aqua Mirror to single out Germatoid's true body among its many copies so that Sailor Uranus can finish it off through the eye with her Space Sword. The SuperS movie gives the move its formal on-screen debut, where it erases the magical instruments of Poupelin, Banane, and Orangeat, and she later turns it on the Mirror Paredri. It also surfaces in games such as Another Story, where it strikes several enemies at once for a set energy cost.
Sailor Neptune's Deep Aqua Mirror powers her Submarine Reflection technique, which works two ways. It can be used as a scrying tool to reveal an enemy who is hidden or disguised, or as a weapon that fires a violent surge of seawater at a target.
